John Deem joined NFP/Potomac Basin Group in 2008 as an Employee Benefits consultant. In 2011, he received the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist, or CEBS, designation from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. In January of 2012 John was promoted to Director of Business Development. In this role, John leads a team of licensed insurance professionals who consult with employers regarding all aspects of their employee benefit plans. In July of 2015 John received a promotion to Senior Vice President of Potomac Basin Group. John is an expert on the Affordable Care Act. He assists the agency’s clients with understanding the health care reform law, evaluating the law’s impact on their businesses, and developing strategies for navigating through the law’s complexities.
John attended University of Maryland’s College of Business and Management, where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors of Science in Accounting and Finance in 1982.
Susan Meyer, Senior Vice President, Administration

Susan began her career in 1991 with a P&C agency in Ellicott City which was acquired by Potomac Basin Group in 2000. Susan has held a variety of roles within the company over the years. In January of 2016, Susan was promoted to Senior Vice President of Administration. In this role she oversees all aspects of accounting and office administration.
Jennifer Swistak, Vice President, Client Services

Jennifer has been with working in Client Services for NFP since 2007 and was recently promoted to Vice President of Client Services overseeing the NFP Potomac Basin Group Client Service Team. Jennifer and her team are responsible for not only providing outstanding customer service but also coordinating, implementing and monitoring group health insurance renewal plans and policies in compliance with state regulations.
Before joining NFP, Jennifer served as a group sales representative for Genworth Financial and HealthAmerica (A Coventry Healthcare Plan). She previously sat on the Board of Directors for the Greater Washington Area Health Underwriters. Jennifer graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
Laura Chaney, Vice President, Wholesale Division

Laura joined Potomac Basin as an Employee Benefits Consultant in 2008.
In 2009, she was promoted to work alongside one of Potomac Basin’s most successful brokers and then eventually assisted 3 additional top brokers within the same year to service and assist in expanding their block of business.
In 2011, she was approached by the Director of Wholesale to assist in developing the Wholesale Team to what it has become today. Expanding the Wholesale team to include all services from New Business to Renewals along with superior client services in the fall of 2012, she was promoted as the Director of Wholesale Operations for Potomac Basin Group and then in 2015 was promoted as the Vice President of Wholesale Operations.
In her role, Laura leads a team of insurance experts that specialize in Rating, New Business Case Submission, Renewals, Enrollments, and Service/Escalated Claim issues. The Wholesale team’s overall mission is take customer service to the next level by providing brokers with systems and products that will help enhance and grow their block of business. We do the “unexpected”!
Laura graduated from Seton Hill University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Interior Design and a minor in Management in 1992. Laura is also the Membership Co-Chair with the Greater Washington Association of Health Underwriters.
